SCHOOLCRAFT COUNTY, MI – A woman trespassing to pick asparagus was busted by the DNR shortly after telling the landowner to “go ahead and call the DNR.”
According to an official report, the incident occurred when Robert Freeborn and Mike Evink, conservation officers in DNR District 2, responded to a recreational trespass complaint involving a subject picking asparagus in Schoolcraft County.
The COs arrived shortly after the call and spoke to the landowner who said a female subject was trespassing on his farmland to pick his asparagus. He added that when he told the woman she was on private property she told him to go ahead and call the DNR.

After getting the suspect’s description, the COs knew exactly who the woman was since they had dealt with her a few years ago for the same thing and had issued a warning, according to the report.
The COs located the female suspect at her house and she eventually admitted to the trespass. The suspect also recalled being talked to by the COs a few years ago as well.
A report will be submitted to the prosecutor’s office requesting charges for the trespass, according to the report.
DNR District 2 is located in the eastern Upper Peninsula and includes Alger, Chippewa, Delta, Mackinac, Luce and Schoolcraft counties.
