LocalLit book spotlight: 'The Weekly Fruit And Vegetable Report' - The Herald-News

So full disclosure. I had no idea I had a shout-out in Tom Hernandez's latest book, "The Weekly Fruit And Vegetable Report: Tales and Tidbits from a New Grandpa," when Hernandez asked if I'd review it in the LocalLit newsletter.

I have read pieces of it in the past. I recently read all of it. And shout-out not withstanding, I will give my honest opinion of the book in Tuesday's newsletter.

Here is its Amazon description: "An interesting thing happens when grandchildren come along. Gray skies brighten. Heavy loads lighten.Rough roads smooth out. If only for a little while.

"Every butterfly and flower become a new mystery to be explored; every park and playground a new adventure to be conquered; every memory a slice of history to be shared with an eye on the future. And ice cream, eaten together, never tastes better.

"These 40 essays, poems and short stories chart one man’s journey during a time of division and darkness, and how an amazing little spirit helped defeat a world of demons, one giggly smile at a time."
