Pala (Kottayam): The longest okra that grew in a kitchen garden here has entered a record. Aniyamma (79), wife of Marangad native Augustine, nurtured the giant okra which ended up getting an award of India Book of Records. This okra is the longest one grown in a kitchen garden.
Aniyamma cultivated 'Kalakkomban' variety of okra which has a length of 19.5 inches. She had never thought of any record of vegetables as she has been farming since a very young age. However, she noticed a new report about the longest okra and found that her okra is larger than that.
Aniyamma's son Jaison informed the same on the website of the India Book of Records. They granted the honour after the officials of Ramapuram agricultural department measured the okra and confirmed its length. Thus, the okra in her garden became famous.
Agriculture is a lifestyle for Aniyamma and husband Augustine. They produce vegetables required for household in their garden. Aniyamma is totally in charge of the vegetable cultivation. Daya Bai, the social activist who dedicated her life for the welfare of tribal people in Madhya Pradesh, is Aniyamma's sister.
