Restrain offers solutions for the maintenance of low level ethylene gas in potato and onion storages, as well as tomato ripening on the vine.
According to John Hutchison, Restrain Manager in the UK, the Restrain sprout inhibition solution is being applied by more than 1.500 growers and other customers in potato storage facilities in 38 countries around the world. A total of more than 1.3 million tonnes of stored potatoes are being treated with the Restrain technology.
Hutchison says that in addition to the cost saving aspect, immediate processing of potatoes and no risk of internal sprouting treated with the Restrain technology are further benefits to storage operator and growers. Ethylene gas has the important advantage that treated potatoes can be processed directly from the storage.
John Hutchison, Restrain Manager in the UK:
“This makes Restrain not only a lot cheaper compared to the other alternatives to CIPC, but also more user-friendly.”
“It is our intention to make it as easy as possible for our customers to work with our products.”
That's why Restrain has recently launched a unique online training course for the benefit of existing and new customers.
After placing an order, Restrain customers can now go online and complete an online training course in which they will learn how the Restrain system works, and what storage managers should take into account applying ethylene as a sprout inhibitor. The course is currently available in 8 different languages commonly spoken around the world.
The goal of the online training course is to educate and familiarize new and existing customers with the Restrain ethylene concept, as well as Restrain equipment. The training course was specifically designed with potato storage season 2020/2021 in mind.
The online training course is highly informative and easy to complete. Existing users of the Restrain solution agree that the training broadened their understanding of not only the system, but broadened their knowledge of sprout inhibition as such.
The training course is broken down into five modules:
- Introduction
- Pre-start phase
- Ethylene treatment
- Storage management
- Safety guidelines
The course does not only contain text based information, but each module is supported by a number of short, informative videos that explain the topics at hand in a practical, hands-on and user friendly way.
John Hutchison:
“Our training course is a one-of-a-kind offering in the storage industry.”
“We are excited about the positive feedback that we've received from our customers thus far, and we will no doubt roll it out to as many Restrain users as possible around the world.”
