"We are at the beginning of the 2020 season for our autumn and winter vegetables, but the available volumes for broccoli, artichokes and fennel are limited due to drought and other unfavorable weather conditions occurred during the flowering period, which delayed the harvest by about 10 days. There are a lot of requests for these references, and we are trying to accommodate all our customers, while waiting for next week, when more significant quantities will be available."

On an area of 500 hectares 30 growers grow exclusively organic fruit and vegetables for Principe di Puglia, Rocco Dimallio, commercial director of Principe di Puglia, explained to FreshPlaza. .

"These products are of excellent quality, safe, tasty and free from pesticides, because they originate from organic farming. Such distinguishing features set us apart from other suppliers and lead to a significant increase in demand." The vegetables are grown on the vast plain of Tavoliere delle Puglie and packaged with an eye on environmental sustainability."

"In two weeks we will finish processing our broccoli, fennel and artichokes. On 1 November we will also start harvesting cauliflower and celery. We have an extensive assortment of fruits and vegetables and a production calendar that allows us to deliver continuously from October to the end of May. We are currently receiving requests not only from major Italian large-scale retail trade and fruit and vegetables wholesalers, but also from international players, mainly from Germany, Denmark, Austria and the UK, countries we supply 12 months a year," continued Dimallio.

The O.P. Principe di Puglia is committed to social sustainability. "We have renewed our percentage of females and joined the NOCAP program for the inclusion of young women and men saved from labour exploitation, and we have applied the label "NOCAP" on our fresh and processed products. Moreover, given the interest arriving from the Middle Eastern countries, we are now enriching our range of certifications with the addition of the Vegan Ok and Kosher labels."
