The National Institute for Agrarian Innovation (INIA) has developed a new high-yielding sweet potato variety called INIA 331 - Bondadosa, with high genetic quality, which will improve the profitability of small and medium-sized producers on the coast and inter-Andean valleys by more than 50%.

According to the technical file, INIA 331 - Bondadosa has an outstanding quality and high productivity. In the conditions of the coastal and inter-Andean valleys, with their moderate temperatures, the productive yield has the potential to reach up to 60 tons per hectare.

Moreover, the new variety has a longer shelf life during the post-harvest period, it is tolerant to the sweet potato virus, it can be sown all year round –although it achieves better yields in spring– it has high nutritional quality and is suitable for the domestic market, for exports and for the processing industry.

Also, the profitability index of the sweet potato INIA 331 - Bondadosa is 52.5% higher than that of the control variety (INIA 320 - Amarillo Benjamín), with a lower risk of variability in the yield and cost variations, given the high productivity rates obtained.

INIA 331 - Bondadosa has been developed by the National Root and Tuberous Program at the Donoso Agrarian Experimental Station (EEA), in Huaral. Ipomea nil plants were used as the standard for the parents: clone 54-2011, Huayro and JP USA.
