How to Catch Glastrier or Spectrier

Follow the walkthrough for Legendary Clue 1 to get to the point where you need to choose where to plant your carrot seeds.

Follow the instructions on How to Get Calyrex, Glastrier, and Spectrier if you get lost.

Where to Plant the Carrot Seeds

Choose the plot of land to plant the carrot seeds to determine which will appear. Glastrier is an Ice-type Legendary Pokemon, and Spectrier is a Ghost-type Legendary Pokemon.

To Summon Glastrier

If you plant your Carrot Seeds in the frozen soil at Snowside Slope, you'll end up with an Iceroot Carrot - which will summon Glastrier.

Snowside Slope is located north of Giant's Bed. You'll see the frozen soil near some ruins.

To Summon Spectrier

If you plant your Carrot Seeds in the haunted soil at the Old Cemetery, you'll end up with a Shaderoot Carrot - which will summon Spectrier.

The Old Cemetery is located east of Giant's Bed. The haunted soil you're looking for is contained within a small set of ruins.

Which Should You Choose - Glastrier vs Spectrier

Glastrier and Spectrier are two new Legendary Pokemon available in Pokemon Sword and Shield's Crown Tundra DLC.

Only one is obtainable during your playthrough, though, so choose wisely!

Glastrier is an Ice-type Pokemon with high Attack and Defense at the cost of Speed.

Spectrier is a Ghost-type Pokemon with high Special Attack and Speed, but low Defense.

Glastrier is required for Calyrex to enter its Ice Rider form, which grants it Ice / Psychic typing and the Physical attack Glacial Lance. This exclusive attack deals 130 base damage, has 100 accuracy, and 5 PP.

Spectrier is required for Calyrex to enter its Shadow Rider form, which grants it Ghost / Psychic typing and the Special attack Astral Barrage. This exclusive attack deals 120 base damage, has 100 accuracy, and 5 PP.

The base stats for each Pokemon are as follows:

Iceroot Carrot - Glastrier Shaderoot Carrot - Spectrier
HP 100 100
Attack 145 65
Defense 130 60
Special Attack 65 145
Special Defense 110 80
Speed 30 130

Note: The stats above represent the base stats of the individual Glastrier and Spectrier not when they combine with Calyrex.

So, which is the better option? Well, that depends on your team's composition or your specific playstyle.

Spectrier is a very fast Ghost-type Pokemon and benefits from its STAB moves Shadow Ball and Hex. However, these are the only two Special Attacks it learns without the use of TM/TRs, limiting its effectiveness.

Spectrier has better typing, though, as Ghost-type Pokemon are only weak to Ghost and Dark, resistant to Poison and Bug, and immune to Fighting and Normal-type Pokemon.

Glastrier is a heavy-hitting attacker with solid Attack, Defense, and Special Defense. However, its low Speed stat make it almost always a follow-up attacker. Its moveset is more favorable as it learns many more Physical Attacks that can take advantage of its stats.

Glastrier's pure Ice-typing make it very unfavorable, though. Ice has four weaknesses: Fighting, Rock, Steel, and Fire; no immunities, and only resistant to other Ice-type Pokemon.

Overall, Spectrier is the better option of the two - so long as you have some other Special moves you can teach it to take advantage of it's Special Attack and Speed in battle.
