Taylor Farms is a family-owned-and-operated company that specializes in supplying salads, fresh-cut vegetables and healthy fresh foods to the foodservice, retail produce and retail deli segments of the fresh business.
The Salinas, CA-based company has launched four new chopped kits — Dill Pickle, Everything, Strawberry Rosé and Thai Chili Mango; added a Caesar Chopped Kit to its Family Size Kits; added a Chicken Chopped Salad Kit, Avocado with Grilled Chicken; and created a new Vegetable Tray with Everything Flavor Ranch Dip and two new Vegetable Kit flavors, Lemon Pesto and Southwest.
“Our chopped salad kits have been a big component of the buzz around our brand,” said Quincie Gourley, marketing coordinator for Taylor Farms. “Building from the success of all chopped kits, these new chopped and vegetable meal kits are offering customers the ideal restaurant experience and artisanal flavors in the comfort of their own homes, place of work, or on the go. As the nationwide leader in the chopped salad kit sales and product innovation, Taylor Farms’ new recipe creations are a result of direct consumer demand for new, fresh, and flavorful options.”
The company continues to focus innovation on its chopped salad kits as the value-added salad category has grown double-digits year-over-year for the past five years, with salad kits alone delivering the lion’s share of growth. In fact, salad kits represent 22 percent of the value-added salad category dollar sales with conventional chopped salad kit growth contributing the highest share of growth at 23 percent in the latest 52 weeks.
Taylor Farms represents 33 percent of the chopped salad kit segment today.
Since the pandemic, Taylor Farms has seen many consumers moving back into retail and most of its segments are benefitting, most notably, organic salads and salad kits.
“On-the -go items, like single-serve salads, were initially down and are now rebounding as well,” said Bryan Jaynes, vice president of product management. “Trips are down but basket size is up as at-home eating occasions have grown. Shoppers continue to seek home-prepared and home-cooked meal solutions that focus on health, taste, convenience, value and variety.”
By pushing boundaries on flavor innovation, Taylor Farms continues to create must-have staples in the minds of consumers.
“We feel there is still a huge opportunity to expand our brand’s offering within the marketplace and get our healthy and flavorful kits in the hands of more customers,” Gouley said. “Produce is still driving huge upside for the retailer. That tells us that the shopper who is buying during this time is extremely valuable to retailers. Keeping them interested and happy with innovation and high-quality products is critical. The future looks strong, too. More and more, consumers care about how their food impacts the world around us.”
