France produced 6,758,800 tons of potatoes in the 2020 campaign, i.e. 3.4% more than the 6,535,900 tons it produced in 2019, according to data published by the French Potato inter-branch organization. Production in 2020 is also 1.1% higher than the average production between 2015 and 2019.
The organization highlighted that the surface had increased by 1.4% this season reaching 154,900 hectares. Yields increased by 1.8% over 2019, going from 42.8 tons/hectare to the current 43.6.
Production was led by the department of Nord-Pas de Calais, which produced 2.5 million tons of potatoes (11.1% more than in 2019) in an area of 57,300 hectares, achieving yields of 44.5 tons/hectare. It was followed by Picardy with 1.7 million tons (-0.5%) in an area of 40,800 hectares, and with average yields of 43.5 tons/hectare.
Finally, Champagne-Ardenne produced 702,000 tons, (+ 11.8%) in an area of 13,500 hectares, obtaining a yield of 52 tons/hectare.
