And for a foodie fest that celebrates all things totally tater, look no further than the first-ever Potatoes N' Such: Dayton Potato Festival.
Pre-pandemic, potato festival founder Janelle Henderson was dismayed by Dayton, Ohio's lack of spud-centric celebrations. So, she came up with one herself. Unfortunately, the inaugural festival, originally slated to take place in September 2020, had to be pushed to August 2021 due to COVID.
Finally, 2021 is here and we’re just about able to see the glimpses of August’s high temps and frizzy hair.
Not only does Dayton’s Potato Festival allow Ohioans to celebrate the various ways a potato can be eaten, but it also gives vendors a chance to showcase their culinary skills and imagination when it comes to transforming a cult-favorite vegetable. Each menu must have at least one potato-based item. If you'd like to become a vendor, you can sign up online.
If you’d like a hand in bringing Dayton’s Potato Festival to life, fill out a sponsorship form. Sponsorships range from silver ($750 donation) to gold ($1,500) to platinum ($2,500). Sponsors will receive a booth at the festival, shout outs on social media and the radio, and some free potato fest merch.
The festival takes place from noon-8 p.m. on Aug. 14 at Courthouse Square in downtown Dayton.
