Channel trouble: Jersey blockade threatens potato shortage - FreshPlaza.com

Farmers on Jersey island warn that a protest by French fisherman could delay shipments to the UK. The blockade at Jersey’s port St Helier might disrupt exports of Jersey Royal potatoes just as its harvesting season gets underway.

France and the UK have both sent military vessels into waters close to the Channel island, as the diplomatic battle between the countries escalates. The latter was sparked by a row over fishing rights. Nigel Holliday, commercial director at the Jersey Royal Company – which accounts for almost two-thirds of the annual crop – said it would have to cancel orders and pause production if the ferry from St Helier to Portsmouth is unable to travel.
